Brand Manager
Reporting To: Senior Brand Manager (SQUARE ENIX and Third Party titles)

Job Description:

  • A key role within the SQUARE ENIX brands team, the role is to manage aspects of product development, marketing & PR strategy, advertising and product launch for SQUARE ENIX and Third Party developed titles as allocated - driving the awareness, revenue and profitability for those allocated brands/titles. Responsible for project managing the delivery of key materials through the publishing cycle, the role is expected to work closely with a number of stakeholders, ensuring they are able to successfully deliver the title to market.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Research, develop, refine and communicate the PAL/pan-Western region marketing strategy for allocated SE titles/franchises as applicable, ensuring input and approvals as below.

    Be the expert of allocated products (including visibility of and input into elements such as rolling forecasts, P&L, key selling features, milestone delivery dates, promotional budgets and schedules, code demo ability, market/genre status and history, brand assets usage guidelines, competitive marketplace and any territory specifics), communicating this information to internal and external partners to best effect for the brand. Define scheduling for promotional collateral and tools, driving detailed scheduling and action from relevant personnel to ensure on-time, to-budget, high-quality delivery. Ensure communication of scheduling and deliverables to local territory teams as well as key internal stakeholders. Build effective relationships with the marketing and PR managers in local territories. Work with local offices to understand their needs and wishes, and drive delivery of materials and solutions that meet business objectives.

    Work with and drive SEE Production, SQUARE ENIX R&D teams and other product development personnel to maximise market relevance, quality and timeliness of game content.

    Review and signoff on the promotional activities intended by local territory offices and distributors, including above-the-line, media buying, third/first party promotions, PR, trade marketing, trade pricing and other publishing disciplines as conducted by local offices and distributors. Be the point of contact for communication of central and local promotional strategies and tactics with SQUARE ENIX R&D and Publicity Divisions.

    Drive initial set-up of and ensure accurate administration and control of the brand budget for allocated titles. Drive the allocation and communication of any first party and SQUARE ENIX-funded promotional contribution funds to local territory offices.

    Source and execute with first and third party partners for best effect of the brand.

    Conduct consumer research as needed on allocated IPs/brands/titles as required, and communicate the results to stakeholders as needed, to build business cases that champion the brand.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Develop working knowledge of the marketplace which falls within your responsibility, including platform installed bases, retail picture, consumer profile, promotional activity and pricing economics. Feed knowledge of benchmark products and their publishing actions and results through the group.

    Contribute to the product evaluation process.

    Monitor and report on existing and potential vendors and other partners.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Proven product/brand management experience, with an understanding of the needs and wishes of multiple stakeholders through the supply chain at an international/global level.
  • Experience within the videogames or related entertainment industry.
  • Able to work under pressure and find solutions to multiple and varying needs.
  • Experience of working directly with and developing relationships with videogame development studios.
  • Local/territory marketing experience.
  • Degree level of education or equivalent, and/or CIM qualification.
  • Ability to speak another language.
  • Some understanding of the Japanese games market and any differences in market preferences and publishing strategies and tactics, to Western markets.

Technical Skills

  • Good time management, co-ordination, organisational, budgetary, interpersonal and communication skills. Creative thinker with common sense.
  • Excellent attention to detail, particularly with generation of briefs, plans and schedules.
  • Basic understanding of video game production processes, timelines and methods.
  • Experience with project management tools, systems and processes.
  • Experience with MS Project.

  • Ability to energise and motivate colleagues and stakeholders, in order to ensure project delivery.
