MMO Community Manager (Los Angeles, CA)

Summary

Oversees the development of innovative community-related activities to retain and attract players of Massively Multiplayer Online Games (MMO).

Education and/or Experience:

  • HS Degree; some college preferred
  • 2 + years as a Community manager of a commercial MMO
  • Community management experience i.e. web sites; MMO guild leader, etc.
  • Extensive knowledge of one or more MMO game play
  • Experience supervising and coaching/mentoring team members a plus

Requirements:

  • Ability to resolve issues in a patient and professional manner
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Flexibility and willingness to independently navigate areas of unfamiliarity
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in all MS Office applications

Accounting Associate (Los Angeles, CA)

Summary

The Accounting Associate – A/P is mainly responsible for compiling and maintaining accounts payable records. This includes processing payment of vendor invoices, reconciliation of vendor's account and maintaining vendors' file.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Checks/reviews and processes all vouchers for payment
  • Answers vendor inquiries
  • Reports and maintains accounts payable/vendor files
  • Prepares and post entries after review by Accounting Manager
  • Prepares account transaction analysis as required
  • Assists in monthly and quarterly closings by preparing schedules or compiling information using data from accounting software
  • Fixed assets – recording, monitoring and reconciliation between sub-ledger and general ledger
  • Bank reconciliation
  • Budget – compilation of department budgets
  • Posts credit memo entries after review by Credit Manager
  • Other duties and projects as requested
  • And other related duties as required

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or 1-2 years related experience/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Able to present numerical data effectively
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Knowledge of Word Processing software; proficient in Excel spreadsheet software; Great Plains accounting software; Inventory and Database software

Senior Level Designer (Los Angeles, CA)

Summary

Square Enix will be looking to hire at the 2009 Game Developers Conference.

We are looking for a Senior Level Designer to focus on the gameplay design of our levels.

The ideal candidate has experience working at each step of the level design and creation process. The candidate must have a wide range of skills necessary in making high quality levels.

Responsibilities:

The Senior Level Designer will be asked to design and create levels from gameplay concept to completion. The Senior Level Designer will be working closely with the concept artist and the environment artist to create the levels. The Senior Level Designer will also be responsible for the overall balance and fun factor of the entire game.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 4 years of professional experience
  • Minimum 2 shipped titles
  • Portfolio of levels, models, and screenshots
  • Familiarity with 3ds Max
  • Familiarity with a level designer tool
  • Scripting experience (Lua, Python, proprietary, etc.)

Desired:

  • Environment modeling background
  • Experience working with lighting

Senior Environment Artist (Los Angeles, CA)

Summary

Square Enix will be looking to hire at the 2009 Game Developers Conference.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Environment Artist to take charge of the environment creation pipeline.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience leading in the design, execution, and maintenance of a large-scale production pipeline . The candidate must also have strong knowledge of the most current art technologies and techniques.

Responsibilities:

The Senior Environment Artist will work closely with the producer, the level designers, the concept artist, and art team to lead the creation of assets and levels. The Senior Environment Artist will be responsible for creating and maintaining an efficient production pipeline, and will be asked to identify and solve any obstacles along the way.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years professional experience
  • Minimum 2 shipped titles for major console platforms
  • A portfolio that demonstrates excellent concept, modeling, texturing and lighting skills
  • Mastery of 3ds Max, Photoshop and ZBrush
  • Experience creating all aspects of a 3D game environment including terrain, hard and soft surfaces, etc.
  • Thorough understanding of lighting, rendering and technologies
  • Skilled in unwrapping and texturing (photoreal and hand painted)
  • Self motivated work ethic
  • Genuine enthusiasm and knowledgeable interest in video games

Desired:

  • Rigging and animation experience
  • Experience making shell and in-game UI
  • 3ds Max scripting

Quality Assurance Tester (Los Angeles, CA)

Summary

Responsible for the quality assurance testing of assigned console and handheld games in development for the North American market.

This is a temporary position.

Responsibilities:

  • Examines and analyzes video game content for bugs
  • Documents bugs found in the games
  • Writes error reports which are sent to the development team for rectification. When the error has been fixed by the development team, the QA tester verifies that the fix works properly
  • Communicates with Quality Assurance team to ensure deadlines are being met
  • Creates internal guides and materials
  • Uploads error reports to appropriate databases. Maintains databases to ensure up-to-date information has been entered
  • Conducts industry research of comparable video games by examining and evaluating competitors' games and creating game reports
  • Maintains confidentiality of games that have not been released to the public
  • And other related duties as required

Senior Software Engineer (Los Angeles, CA)

Job Summary

Square Enix is building a studio from the ground up. We are making an action-oriented original IP game here in sunny Los Angeles. We are looking for motivated master programmers to lay the foundation for a solid development team.

How often do you get a chance to make sure that a studio starts off in the right direction? How often do you get to be one of the starting members, but also have medical insurance? This is a rare opportunity to have the creative control of a start-up but the backing and funding of a major publisher.

Responsibilities:

  • Being a core member of a game development team
  • Being the lead for a particular platform or a major chunk of the code
  • Creating or deciding to purchase major chunks of code
  • Creating the infrastructure for efficient game development
  • Hiring and mentoring other software engineers
  • Coming up with and implementing gameplay

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree

Software Engineer (Los Angeles, CA)

Job Summary

Square Enix is seeking a game programmer with significant C and C++ experience. Applicant would be joining a small initial team to build a studio from the ground up and should feel comfortable taking on a wide range of tasks. The ideal candidate will implement a major chunk of the engine, gameplay or both. Be a game creator, not just a programmer who writes to spec!
