3d Artist - Contract Position (Los Angeles, CA)

Summary

Square Enix, Inc. is seeking a 3D Contract Artist to help create our unannounced project. We are looking for highly talented artists to work with our Senior Artists and Concept Artists to create amazing looking assets.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Construction of the game's assets, including creation of terrain, props, characters, model unwrapping and hand painting textures
  • Works closely with senior artists to maintain art style and cohesive look and feel throughout the game
  • Maintains a consistent quality of work yet stays on schedule
  • Communicates with designers, producers, programmers and fellow artists
  • Other related duties as required

Education and/or Experience:

  • At least 2 years of Art/Animation experience required
  • Some College required; a degree preferred
  • Ability to demonstrate dynamic traditional art skills which includes a strong grasp of color, scale, proportion and lighting
  • Experience modeling and texturing assets for a diverse visual range of environments, mechanical and character types
  • At least 1 shipped title for a major game platform
  • Mastery in mesh/UV skills and Mastery in texture painting
  • Complete understanding of traditional, next generation modeling and texturing practices using 3D, Studio Max, Z–Bush and Photoshop
  • Strong knowledge of 3D art production processes, pipelines, proper building techniques and platform performance restrictions
  • Strong understanding of composition and game play flow

Marketing Assistant, Interactive Marketing - Contract Position (Los Angeles, CA)

Summary

The Marketing Associate will work as an integral member of the Interactive Marketing team within the Marketing Department. This candidate will be responsible for assisting in the maintenance of SEA's online presence including the corporate web site, the community forums, product web sites, eCRM and DM initiatives, eCommerce activities as well as other online marketing promotions and programs.

  • Effectively work with internal cross functional teams including IT, Brand Marketing, HR, Corporate PR, Sales, PD, etc with all online activities, promos, sweeps, etc
  • Manages mass e-mail campaigns: creation, tracking and execution of marketing e-mails

Quality Assurance Translator - Contract Position (Los Angeles, CA)

Summary

Primary responsibility is translating bugs and reference documents. This includes translating the open bugs from English to Japanese as well as the testing and evaluating of games.

  • Help QA personnel play through Alpha versions of titles that do not have complete English text
  • Assist in the testing of a project, translation or evaluation and write or co-write walkthroughs for game titles
  • May be required to review and provide comment on a current or upcoming title using an Impressions evaluation
  • If requested by Marketing or Development, may be required to participate in evaluation sessions to determine if Japanese title from Square would benefit an American release
  • Other related duties as required

Education and/or Experience:

  • Must be bilingual – Japanese/English. Must have strong and professional skills at both Japanese to English and English to Japanese translation
  • Knowledge of Japanese/American pop culture

Level Designer - Contract Position (Los Angeles, CA)

Summary

The Level Designer will be responsible for creating fun and well balanced games for the LA studio's first action based game. The Level Designer will be working closely with all members of the team to try to bring various parts of the game together.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Some college required
  • Familiarity with the shooter and action genre
  • Ability to resolve game-play and production issues

Art Director (Los Angeles, CA)

Summary

The Art Director is responsible for defining and managing the direction of the art in our current project.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Minimum of 6+ years of professional experience
  • Portfolio must demonstrate excellent concepting, modeling, texturing and lighting skills
  • At least 2 shipped titles for major console platforms
  • Mastery of 3ds Max, Photoshop and ZBrush
  • Strong Artistic and technical background in all aspects of game art creation
  • Experience with creating all aspects of a 3D game art including, but not limited to, characters, terrain, hard and soft surfaces
  • Thorough understanding of lighting and rendering techniques/technologies, unwrapping and texturing (photoreal and hand painted)

Senior Environment Artist (Los Angeles, CA)

Summary

The Sr. Environment Artist is responsible in taking charge of the environment creation pipeline. Applicants must have extensive experience leading in the design, execution and maintenance of a large-scale production pipeline.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Minimum of 5+ years of related professional experience
  • Strong knowledge of the most current art technologies and techniques
  • At least 2 shipped titles for major console platforms
  • Portfolio must demonstrate excellent concept, modeling, texturing and lighting skills
  • Mastery of 3ds Max, Phototshop and ZBrush
  • Experience with the creation of all aspects of a 3D game environment, including terrain, hard and soft surfaces

Quality Assurance Tester - Contract Position (Los Angeles, CA)

Summary

Responsible for the quality assurance testing of assigned console and handheld games in development for the North American market.

This is a temporary position and it is located at our Los Angeles, CA office only.

Responsibilities:

  • Examines and analyzes video game content for bugs
  • Documents bugs found in the games
  • Writes error reports which are sent to the development team for rectification. When the error has been fixed by the development team, the QA tester verifies that the fix works properly
  • Communicates with Quality Assurance team to ensure deadlines are being met
  • Creates internal guides and materials
  • Uploads error reports to appropriate databases. Maintains databases to ensure up-to-date information has been entered
  • Conducts industry research of comparable video games by examining and evaluating competitors' games and creating game reports
  • Maintains confidentiality of games that have not been released to the public
  • And other related duties as required

Senior Software Engineer (Los Angeles, CA)

Job Summary

Square Enix is building a studio from the ground up. We are making an action-oriented original IP game here in sunny Los Angeles. We are looking for motivated master programmers to lay the foundation for a solid development team.

How often do you get a chance to make sure that a studio starts off in the right direction? How often do you get to be one of the starting members, but also have medical insurance? This is a rare opportunity to have the creative control of a start-up but the backing and funding of a major publisher.

Responsibilities:

  • Being a core member of a game development team
  • Being the lead for a particular platform or a major chunk of the code
  • Creating or deciding to purchase major chunks of code
  • Creating the infrastructure for efficient game development
