The Story
Bianca and Nera are searching for the fabled Leaves of Life that will supposedly heal their sick fathers. One night, the girls are visited at their bedsides by a strange creature called Fluffy, who leads them to continue their search in another land - the Kingdom of Witherwood, where the leaves are said to grow. However, they find Witherwood has been ravaged by malevolent forces that have all but eradicated the Leaves of Life... Fluffy bestows the girls with the power to befriend monsters, and the duo set out to revive the Leaves of Life - a quest that will take them to all corners of this this strange new world.

A staple of the DRAGON QUEST MONSTERS series is its monster wranglers. These plucky types have the special ability to befriend monsters - a surefire blessing as they explore vast foreign lands. Recruit the monsters you meet in each different area, send them into battle, use them to synthesize new creatures, and strengthen your party exactly how you want. This game features over 500 monsters to befriend, including familiar ones from across the DRAGON QUEST series, and some all-new additions to the roster. With your favorite monsters by your side, it's time to head off in search in some unforgettable battles!

There are many ways to obtain monsters. Not only can you scout them during battle, sometimes they'll even ask to join your team!
While your monsters are the ones who do the fighting, you can issue the orders or choose the tactics to help them take down foes.
As your monsters take part in more battles, they'll grow stronger by levelling up and learning new spells and abilities. Why not see how strong you can make your favourite monsters?

In addition to the main game, four downloadable content (DLC) will be available.
DLC - The Mega Mole Hole
Delve into the special dungeons of the Mega Mole Hole where you'll only encounter monsters you've befriended before. You select the ranks and families of the monsters that appear in the dungeon to increase your chances of meeting the exact ones you want.
If you need a monster that only shows itself at a certain location at a specific time, or is otherwise only obtainable through synthesis, you can use the Mega Mole Hole to make an easier time of befriending it.
DLC - Monster Marathons
In Monster Marathons, you send out a party on an expedition mini game, instructing your monsters when to run and jump as you guide them to their destination. The farther your monsters travel, the more experience points and gold coins they'll earn, and the more crafting items they'll be able to pick up.
Along the way, your party will run into enemy monsters. The only way to avoid them, and go as far as you can, is with perfectly timed jumps and expertly controlled speed.
DLC - Metallic Ring
The metallic ring is a special item you can use while out exploring to turn all the enemies in the area into metal monsters* or hunter mechs. You can use the metallic ring as many times as you like, but you'll have to wait 30 in-game minutes between uses.
The effects of the metallic ring wear off after some time has passed or if you leave your current area.
Depending on when you use the metallic ring, you may encounter monsters that provide far more experience points than otherwise available at that stage in the story. So whether you're just starting out or have already completed the main story, you can use the metallic ring to quickly and effectively boost your monsters' experience points.
*The metal monsters are metal slimes, liquid metal slimes and metal king slimes.
DLC - Scout Run VIP Card
The Scout Run VIP card is an exclusive item that makes using the Scout Run* even more rewarding. While the Scout Run is available in the base game, this item provides a range of extra benefits, including a bigger allowance of scouty snacks, more monsters appearing at one time, and a reduced wait time between uses.
*With the Scout Run feature, you use special items called "scouty snacks" to befriend monsters without having to enter battle. You can use this feature as many times as you like, but you have to wait a short while between uses.
DLC 4-ITEM SET
This is a downloadable content (DLC) set that lets you enjoy your adventure even more, featuring additional content usable in "DRAGON QUEST MONSTERS: The Withered World", along with items that help you raise monsters more efficiently.
